The evidence is part of the story. Every record links to its evidence. These summaries were assembled for a prototype and have not received independent historian review .
What Across History provides Across History is an interactive, source-linked world-history explorer. It helps learners explore people, places, events, and documents across time and geography through curated records, timelines, a globe, and notes about evidence and perspective.
What the lines mean Document trails, recorded responses, and diplomatic developments have different meanings. A shared date alone earns no connecting line. Arcs are visual links, not reconstructed travel routes.
How we rate sources The provisional 1–5 rating describes source documentation: identifiable creator, traceable provenance, transparent method, and editorial context. It is not a truth, neutrality, or bias score. Potential interests and perspectives are described separately on each source.
Books and articles Selected books and articles appear as further reading with their author, publisher or journal, date, scope, and perspective. We distinguish critical reviews from formal peer review. The first October 7 group includes Israeli, Palestinian, and Gaza-focused histories, plus a terrorism-studies article; their different scopes do not make this a complete bibliography or a balanced consensus. Reviews and peer review do not make a work neutral or settle disputed claims.
Whose history? The Declaration’s equality language coexisted with enslavement and dehumanizing descriptions of Indigenous peoples. Letters, petitions, and later recollections expose different experiences; no single voice represents a whole community.
Contemporary sources and media We name who produced a source, its purpose, and its known perspective and limits. Material published by a party to a conflict, including Hamas, is labeled as party-produced and is not treated as independent verification. Potentially distressing links show a specific text notice and ask before opening. Videos do not autoplay or appear embedded here.
Access and coverage Availability at the publisher may change; Across History links to external source pages and does not host or license their material. The test cases are limited, and global coverage and native-language scholarship need substantial development.
Prototype status Research text and interface translations have not received independent historian review or native-language editorial review. The current sample is open for testing and questions.
Provisional documentation guide ★★★★★ Identifiable original or traceable source record with clear provenance ★★★★☆ Identifiable publisher with a documented collection, method, or evidence trail ★★★☆☆ Publisher identified; provenance or editorial method is less complete ★★☆☆☆ Publisher known, but the source trail or method is poorly documented ★☆☆☆☆ Creator or provenance is unclear; do not rely on it without corroboration Star counts do not establish that a source’s claims are true or unbiased.
Source register and further reading The register distinguishes primary evidence, institutional reports, documentaries, and secondary reading. Review or peer-review details appear when they can be verified. Publisher availability may change; source placements are not sold; project support is disclosed separately.
